Materials

All of my goods are hand stitched with high quality waxed polyester thread for maximum durability and UV resistance. I use only premium full grain vegetable tanned leather, mostly from Italian tanneries such as Conceria Walpier and Conceria Puccini Atillio. The leather I use for wallets is mostly 2-4oz (0.8-1.6mm) thick. Leather used for exterior panels for notebook covers and billfolds is typically 5-6oz (2-2.4mm) thick. Please note that leather is a natural product with some variation between tannery runs. Colours may appear darker or lighter in person depending on the device you are viewing this on. Please note that the majority of the leathers I use are tannery-died and not grain corrected, or coated like you would find with mass produced leather goods. This means that the leather will scratch and mar and patina naturally in a way in that coated, mass-produced leather goods seldom do. This means that your piece will form, mold, scar, and patina based on how you personally interact with and use the product.

A Materials breakdown is as follows:

Leather

Buttero: Widely regarded as some of the most premium leather in the world, Buttero is a premium Italian vegetable tanned leather. It features deep, luxurious colours and a smooth matte finish. Colours tend to be well saturated and bright with extremely minimal pull-up. It is incredibly durable and will develop a beautiful patina over time.

Waxed: This leather is coated with a black wax that is designed to wear off with use, revealing the leather beneath. It is premium grade Italian vegetable tanned leather. The waxed purple for example, is a lighter purple leather that is waxed black to be a deep royal purple colour. As the wax wears down and the piece patinas, the lighter brighter purple will begin to show through. The feel of this leather is smooth, rich, and slightly waxy.

Maremma: Another premium Italian vegetable tanned leather. These French cowhides are vegetable tanned and then infused with a proprietary blend of waxes and oils that results in deep colours with a beautiful pull-up effect. Colours tend to be darker and deeper, highlighting the natural character of these gorgeous hides. This leather has a plush, glossy feel and will patina wonderfully over time.

OA Originals Jack Glazed: This is a European vegetable tanned leather is plush with a distressed look with some pull-up. The finish is glossy and the colour is rich while showing off the natural features of the cowhide such as a fat-lines. This leather has a lot of character and a soft, almost squishy feel.

Coated: This covers things like metallic leather that I bring in occasionally. This is all Italian vegetable tanned leather, it's just finished with an acrylic or similar metallic or patent coating. This will prevent a lot of the classic patina look that uncoated leather gets and will stay looking newer for longer. Due to the nature of this leather, it can be difficult to burnish the edges, so leather edged may have a slightly rougher more natural feel/appearance.

Thread:

I use mostly 0.8mm Ritza Tiger thread. It is a braided waxed polyester thread with incredible strength, bright colours, and a high degree of UV resistance to prevent fading and sun damage. If I am unable to find Ritza in my desired colour I use a comparable substitute sourced directly from reputable Canadian leather shops.

Hardware:

I use only solid brass hardware. Solid brass is 100% rust and corrosion resistant and will patina in much the same way that leather does, which gives each piece a wonderfully unique and storied look. For non brass-coloured hardware it is still brass, just coated with nickel or another coating. This does increase the cost of the items but the last thing I want is the hardware failing before the leather itself and that's why I only use premium hardware that complements the extremely high quality leathers I use in all my goods.
